Tasting Notes

Light bodied and garnet in color with soft cherry notes and a hint of cinnamon. The Syrah adds aromas of smoked cherry wood, and leads to the slight white pepper on the finish. This wine can be served slightly chilled to bring out fruitier and floral components.

Winemaker Notes

Three tons of Gamay Noir and 0.21 tons of Syrah were hand-harvested on 9/27/10, then crushed and de-stemmed, resulting in a chemistry of 22.3 Brix, 8.6 g/L TA, and a pH of 3.33. It was pressed on 10/04/10, after 6 days of fermentation. After 2 days of settling, the wine was racked to 6 older (more than 5 uses) neutral oak French barrels, one 3rd-use mixed French and American oak barrel, and one 3rd use French oak barrel. Malolactic fermentation stopped by early November, after which the wine was cold stabilized to ~35-40 degrees F.

Food Pairing

Our Gamay Noir will pair well with a broad range of casual foods such as charcuterie, light chicken dishes, salads and cheeses.
