Sheldrake Point Winemaker Dinners

The kitchen is bustling. The wine is poured. The table is set. When you attend a winemaker dinner, you are in for an experience that likely transcends all other dinner parties. Why? A winemaker dinner is carefully orchestrated by the people most intimately acquainted with, and invested in, everything on your plates and in your glasses.

Winemaker Dinners Near and Far

Hazelnut Kitchen in Trumansburg partners annually with Sheldrake Point on a winemaker dinner.

Sheldrake Point Winery regularly participates in winemaker dinners around the Finger Lakes and beyond. We plan one annually with our Trumansburg neighbors, Hazelnut Kitchen, but also at venues in other Finger Lakes neighborhoods. Sheldrake Point winemaker dinners have also taken place in Syracuse, NY (at Aster Pantry & Parlor), and in New York City at Beecher’s Handmade Cheese.

I personally like to get out of my wine lab from time to time to connect with the restaurants and chefs who are ambassadors for our wine. These venues include Sheldrake Point wines on their wine lists, and so, in turn, we like to participate in these events as a “thank you” for that support. It is yet another example of the deep connection of community we enjoy in the Finger Lakes wine industry.

Also, my modesty as a winemaker does not preclude me from understanding that it is a unique experience for fans of Sheldrake Point wine to enjoy a meal alongside the winemaker. In truth, we learn from each other about food and wine, and pairings and palates.

New York Wine and Culinary Center, May 11, 2017

The first of two opportunities coming up this month to be part of the unique food and wine experience of a winemaker dinner is in Canandaigua, NY, on May 11, 2017. The New York Wine and Culinary Center, where their local food and wine mission highlights the agricultural bounty of New York State, will host this dinner.

Sheldrake Point as a winery, and many of our staff as individuals, has a long relationship with the NYWCC. Planning this event has been a creative collaboration with Executive Sous Chef Gary Parmelee. Chef Gary has been practicing culinary arts for seven years, at the NYWCC for three of those years and has his WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) Certification Level I.

See You at the Next Winemaker Dinner!

Astor Pantry & Parlor of Syracuse welcomed Sheldrake Point for a wine brunch.

Winemaker dinners are a chance for us to chaperone our wine out into the world, with local food, and with friends old and new. We partner with restaurants near and far to showcase our wine, giving us a chance to extend the reach of Sheldrake Point and create new fans of our wine.

The opportunity to bring a wide selection of Sheldrake Point wines to the table, literally, is a treat for me as a winemaker. I get to see our product carrying out its intended purpose: to be an accompaniment to a good life, and to good meals.

I hope you will join us at a future winemaker dinner!
